Hi. You are probably victim of latest Windows online (probably auto
downloaded) Security update no. 908531. This happened to me. I could open
WORD but trying to open the folders in My Documents would cause the program
to freeze (hang). I tried reloading Word etc but that didn't work. I ran anti
virus software and it found nothing.
THE SOLUTION... It seems this Windows security update conflicts with a
share-to-web file which was present in older HP software for scanners/cameras
etc. You can simply remove the update by going to Control Panel then to
Add/Remove programs and scrolling down the subsequent list and remove it.
However, the Microsoft bods say it is a much needed file. So what I did was
remove the Hewlett Packard 'share to web' program and also an old program
which ran my old H.P. scanner. When I redownloaded the security update after
doing this, it no longer caused the problems.
Good Luck!

I have read the various threads on this problem, and I removed HP Share to
Web from computer but still have the problem. ALL the files under Documents
and Settings are marked "read only" When I try to change them by removing
the mark beside "read only", check apply, then okay, it seems to be okay, but
when I go back to look at properties again, the "read only" is checked.
I have X-P, with Office 2003. Have run virus scan and it isn't that. Set
computer back four days and that didn't help.

What now?
