Word shuts down when I use the Ctrl key on my comp

so confused

Hi I am running Microsoft Word 2004 on a mac each time I try to correct the
spelling of a word in the program it shuts down on me
So far I have tried to re-install it and no luck I am so confused this is
weird it just started happening
I have also cleaned everything out of my trash and cleaned up any programs
that may be interfering and I have all the updates
