word shutting down upon clicking "print"

hi,
wondering if anyone can help me or direct me to where i might find advice.
my documents automatically shut down after i click "print", sometimes when i
restart word i can recover the document, sometimes not. i don't konw where
to look in the configuration to stop word from doing this, or is this a
*bug*?!?!

(i keep forgetting to save my documents before i click print and so i keep
losing documents, it's a HUGE bummer.)
