Word sidebar

Leon

Hi,
I was referred here by the "Where should I post this?" forum. It's not quite
your official topic, but I guess they figured that here I could access people
who know Word and its objects. I have copied their referral at the end of
this post.

I need to automate MS Word to produce stationery that has a sidebar running
down the side of each page -- sort of like a header or footer, but on the
side. Is there something like a vertical header or footer that I can just
dump some content into and have it just show up on the side of each page?
I can do this with columns, of course, but then I have to manage the height
of the sidebar relative to the height of the page, which is not only a lot
clunkier but it makes maintenance more difficult if the user wants to change
the sidebar content.
Any thoughts

Hello Leon,
Thank you for your post!! Unfortunately there is not a current forum to post
the question you are asking so I would recommend that you post you question
to one of the 'microsoft.public.word.application.errors' located here:

Hope that helps!

See these two articles, which between them should answer your question:

How to set up a letter template
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/Letterhead.htm

How to put a header anywhere on a page
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/AnchorToHeader.htm

Note that a "sidebar" created this way will be the same on every page
(unless it's added to just the First Page Header). If what you're looking
for is more like a "scholar's margin," then you need a different approach.

FWIW, a better newsgroup for this sort of question would be
microsoft.public.word.pagelayout.
