Word slows to a crawl - stops responding with a specific file

I am having a problem with word 2002 that is unique to a
specific file that was recently created in in in the same
program. Whenever I load it, it absolutely brings the PC
to a crawl and often a standstill. I have tried loading
it on different machines; with and without antivirus
software operating; and the same thing happens. I have
plenty of memory and disk space. In task manager it shows
100% CPU utilization for Word with no other programs
loaded.

It's a sizable file, and I would like to recover it
somehow. Does anyone have any idea on what might cause
this and how to correct the problem? Thanks.

Suzanne -

Thanks. I've reviewed the referenced document. My
problem is that I can't load the file in Word without the
whole system slowing to a virtual stop. Is there any way
to recover the file from the command line without having
to load it into Word first?

Thanks for the additional tips. I tried all,
unfortunately with the same results. I also tried
restoring the file from an earlier backup, but it must be
corrupt as well. I have a hard copy so I'll be able to
recreate it. Its just about 40 pages is all so it's a bit
of a pain. Thanks though for the help and assistance.

Are you able to open the document using the "Recover text from any
file" format? This is found in the Open dialog box under the "Files of
Type" list box.

If you are then you can at least recover the text.
