Well, typically an Unblock button would only be available for documents downloaded from the web.
These document are all created by me.
This might be something else... Have you seen any pattern at all? Have the affected documents been saved to the same location for example?
I cannot perceive any pattern. Most of the time, it happens to a
document that I just opened, maybe many times, without a problem.
As far as I can tell, they are scattered all over the hard disk -- or,
at least the My Documents folder tree. Some of them are on a shared
disk, but it's a peer-to-peer network with only 2 users and the other
user is 10' away. In any case, most of them are not on shared disks.
See also this KB article which may or may not be relevant:
When you open a document in Word, the document opens as read-only
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909134/en-us/
The only part of that article that might be relevant is that some
other user might have it open. The likely suspects are the anti-virus
program and the backup program. When it happens, I have tried to
determine if either of them are running and might have it open, but it
never looks like they do. I could be wrong about that.
Is there some way to get Windows to tell me who else has it open?
