Please do not send in all upper-case letters. It is considered very bad
manners in English.

You should first quit Word, then re-name your Normal template. When you
restart Word, it will create a brand-new Normal template.

Your problem is that your template has become stuck in double-byte character
mode. Replacing it should fix that. You may have to re-set your Default
Font to a single-byte font as well.

Hope this helps

In the past if I wanted to create a customized "normal" I've had to create a blank
document with appropriate changes then save as "Normal" and Physically change the
Normal template versions.

In 2004 I found out all I have to do is create the blank document save the blank
document and then quit word. Word will ask you whether save changes to Normal.

I've never had a version of word before to ask that.

If it's "fixed", don't "break it"!

Hi Phillip,

In the past if I wanted to create a customized "normal" I've had to create a
blank document with appropriate changes then save as "Normal" and Physically
change the Normal template versions.

As John said, the beset way to customize the Normal template is to open it
directly, make changes, save them, and close it.
In 2004 I found out all I have to do is create the blank document save the
blank document and then quit word. Word will ask you whether save changes to
Normal.

I've never had a version of word before to ask that.

That's because you must have had the preference to "Prompt to save to Normal
template" unchecked!
