word spacing

Hi, I am having problems when I type a document in that when i save it and come back to it at another time, the spaces between the words are gone.....making it look like a long sentence

I am having exactly the same problem and I am running macffice 2008. I also had the exact same problem with 2004. At first I thought it might be an issue with Windows Office 2007 users and mac:word 2008 users working on the same documents; however, I have had several instances were a mac:word 2008 document that is created, edited, saved and re-opened on OSX without interaction with Windows has spaces throughout randomly removed.

This is most annoying. I have found it hard to find other users experiencing this.

Googling for the issue or searching in various forums just presents complaints and whines about interoperability with Leopard spaces.

This is a much bigger and more frustrating issue, trust me!

Yeah, it is, and we don't have a clue what's causing it.

I have a theory that Word is misinterpreting the soft returns at the ends of
lines. It should encode them as "spaces", instead it is coding them as
nulls.

That's a classic error for someone unfamiliar with Unix. In Unix, strings
are null-delimited. I think it's an error like that.

Whatever it is, Microsoft has not yet found a reliable way to reproduce the
problem. If you can document the exact steps needed to produce the problem
EVERY TIME, then please send them through.

Once Microsoft can reproduce the bug, they can find the cause and fix it.
