Word spell check

I want to use XXs as a place holders in a Word document. I intend to
go back afterward and replace all the XXs with the appropriate words
later. To make it easier to find the XXs scattered about the text, it
would be nice if the spell checker didn't recognize the XXs and
underlined them with the squiggly red line. This is what used to
happen when I was using the Windows version of Word on my PC with ME,
but I've recently started working on a MacBook Pro with Office 2004
for Mac and I don't understand why the spell check is recognizing XX.
Is there someway to make this work? I tired making an exclude
dictionary, but the directions in the Word Help don't seem to work.
I also ticked and unticked the Ignore words in upper case in
preferences and that doesn't have any affect either.

Thanks in advance,

RS
