Word Spelling and grammar greyed out in preferences

In my preference drop down menu, spelling and grammar is greyed out, would
love to use this function, alas, i cannot at this time, any help out there?

Makes sense, tried to no avail, could preferences be damaged?

Did you follow the link that told you how to get new preferences, in case
yours are damaged or corrupted?

What exactly did you try?

Following is procedure i did. I did not notice a link for new preferences.

Quit all Office applications.
2. Navigate to your ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/ folder and drag the
file(s) in question to your desktop.
3. Relaunch Word. The file(s) will be recreated when you do so.
4. If all is well, trash the old file(s). In the case of the Word
Preferences/Settings file, you will have to reset some preferences and
AutoCorrect settings.
5. If this doesn't help, quit Word again, trash the new files and drag the
original files back into ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/. Then see the
Troubleshooting Index for other suggestions.

That procedure is how one gets new preferences. Word re-creates the file
fresh.

Okay, well, if damaged preferences were causing the greyed out S&G, then
that procedure should have fixed it. Was Spelling and Grammar back active
after Step 3?

If it wasn't active again after Step 3, what language is your text in? If
you go to Tools | Language, what comes up highlighted?
