Word Spinning Globe

OK, I fixed the "Unexpectedly Quit" problem by deleting a redundant font.
Then I got long spinning globes for everything I tried to do. So I backed up
everything in Office X, uninstalled, then re-installed. Same problem. All
other Office X apps work fine except Word. 10.1.5 Office X. OSX 10.3.4. Any
ideas?

I am a new Mac convert and very happy, but MS apps are disappointing
regardless of platform. What a legacy of trash. ThinkFree is OK. Or maybe I
should look at Appleworks?

Disclaimer: not a true systems expert.

Urgent suggestion: immediately change your email address to something fake.
You'll get a lot of spam if you leave your true address around on
newsgroups.

Only idea I have for you: when you uninstalled, did you delete everything to
do with microsoft or office or any of the component programs in your
User/Preferences folder? Trouble could be lingering there.

Before you do that, you may want to wait for one of the better students of
the files MS scatters around the system to chime in. But deleting things
that have "plist" in the name is always all right. You could lose a setting
here or there, but not crashing would be very nice.

Hope this leads in the right direction.

Lots of troubleshooting suggestions here:
http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/TroubleshootingIndex.htm

NOTE: In Safari, you may need to hit refresh a few times to get these sites
to work. Try Explorer or a different browser.

Re other products, if you aren't committed to Word (usually b/c of need to
exchange documents with others) others to investigate are Mellel, Nisus
Writer, Mariner Write, AbiWord, OpenOffice.org, which have been mentioned by
various people on these groups.

Just for chuckles go back to Fontbook turn back on the font you turned off then turn
off the opposite of the one you turned back on.

Its possible Word is using one version of the font and it happened to be the one you
turned off.
