Word starts very slowly. HOw can I speed it up?

When I click on the Word icon, it takes five minutes or so for the program to
begin. When I installed Office 2003, I got an error message 1919 configuring
ODBC data source. Is this the reason? I tried installing Office 2003 again
and I
still got the error message.

What can I do to speed up the way Word loads so I can start writing right away
and don't have to wait for five or ten minutes for all kinds of things to
happen on
the screen, etc. etc.
