Word Startup Pane - Deleting Document History Listing

I would like to be able to delete the "Open Document" list in the Startup Pane.

I have tried disabling the Startup Pane in Tools / Options / View.
When I re-enable it the listing is still present in the startup Pane.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just remembered that the listing is linked to the "Recently Opened
Documents" feature.

The Startup Pane listing is cleared when the " Recently Opened Documents"
listing is cleared....

Tools / Options / General tab....."Recently Used File List"

If anyone has anything to add that I may have overlooked.....please advise.
