Word startup requires and rejects product key registration

I am using Office 2000 Professional and Windows 98SE. On startup, Word
will open and after a couple of seconds, the registration screen comes
up asking for Product Key. After entering it, it indicates that it is
invalid. When I press cancel, the program shuts down.

The other Office application all work fine. Thanks for your help!

Did you have Works Suite installed before you installed Office Pro? If so,
the Office installation will not have overwritten the version of Word
installed by Works Suite. The CD key you need is the one for Works Suite.
This is why it's advisable to uninstall Word from Works Suite and reinstall
it from Office.
