Word stopped outlining

Word-XP has forgotten how to indent outlines. It was working as it should
Tuesday. My outline is the I. A. 1. etc. form. Now when I try to add an item
after 2., for example, the cursor is immediately to the right of the period,
not indented so it is aligned with the text of item 2. Pressing Tab or
clicking Decrease Paragraph Level just changes the "3." Word just inserted to
"(a)" but doesn't change its position on the line. Any connection with this
week's patches? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Instead of "Decrease Paragraph Level" I meant "Increase Indent."

Tools | AutoCorrect Options | AutoFormat As You Type: Set left- and
first-indent with tabs and backspaces.

Thanks for the quick response. I tried it with the box checked and unchecked
but it didn't work either way.

You might want to make sure your outline is set up correctly according to
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html. It sounds
as if your lower-level styles don't have an indent defined.
