Word stopped working: HELP!!

I open Word 2007 on Vista and I can't select text or type text and functions
are disabled. I've been working with Word 2007 with the full install since
the release.

When I close Word, a get a message saying Word isn't working properly. Then
after saying that a solution will be found on Windows, the program closes and
nothing happens. The next time I open a file, I still can't work in Word and
the error message again appears.

I have shut down and restarted my laptop several times to no avail. I've
posted on the General area (twice) but the one reply I got related to Word
2000. The directions for checking the template, for example, advised me to
click Start, Run - what is the equivalent directions for Vista?

I have deadlines piling up and some annoyed clients. PLEASE HELP - or can
anyone direct me to an area on Microsoft that can provide help. It's pretty
serious when the whole program stops working.

Start, Run or WindowsKey+R. But the problem would suggest that you have a
30-day trial version that has expired or that you failed to activate and has
now used up its 50 operations.

If it's not a trial version issue, does Word work okay when you start it in
Safe mode? Hold down the Ctrl key as Word is starting, and say Yes to safe
mode.

If it works okay in safe mode, but not otherwise, the problem usually is a
damaged normal.dotm or normal.dot file, or a damaged registry key (usually
Word's Data key). Additional help on finding the latter can be found here
(assuming you make adjustments for the fact that Word 2007 is Word 12):

I own the program so that's not it. However, I did finally get help by
phoning - 3 hours it took! It turned out to be a damanged normal template;
not sure why it took so long to correct, but there you go. At least it's OK
now.

Had you started in safe mode as I suggested, you would have saved a 3 hour
phone call.
