WORD submenus not appearing

Mike

I cannot get my submenus in WORD (or Excel for that matter)
to work.

The main drop down menus work fine but when I try to do
something like "Tools / Track Changes" or "View /
Toolbars", there is no submenu that appears next to Track
Changes or Toolbars.

I have already tried the following:

Reinstalled Office 2001
Replaced the Word Settings file
Replaced the Normal Template
Downloaded Office 2001 Service Release 1 (there was nothing
found to update)

I am assuming that there is an extension or something that
is not it its proper place.

Additionally, while going through the help selections,
Microsoft Word Help works but when I select Contents and
Index, I get a message telling that MS Word Help can't be
found. However, that file is in fact in existence in
Microsoft Office>Office>Help.

Hi Mike,

When you reinstalled Office 2001 (which you should have done only after
first *removing* it using the Office removal tool downloaded from
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/download/>), did you download and install the
Office 2001 Combined Updater? It includes the SR 1 but you need the whole
thing. (I don't know what you mean by "there was nothing found to update.")

When you have Office 2001 properly removed/reinstalled/updated, you *should*
be okay. If you're not, that's the time to trash (or rename) your Word
Settings 9 file, which is usually what fixes this problem.

.

Followed your suggestions and downloaded and used the
removal tool and the updater.

Submenus in WORD (and Excel for that matter) still not
appearing.

All MS Help functions are now working.

Trashed WORD Settings 9 file.

Submenus still not appearing.

Out of desparation, increased mimimum memory in WORD to
10000.

Still no submenus.

Now what?

Hi Mike,

First, return Word's Minimum memory to the default. Memory problems are
solved by raising Word's Preferred memory setting only. The usual Preferred
memory recommendation for Word 2001 is 48000K.

However, I don't think memory has anything to do with your problem. Having
eliminated the usual suspects, I think it's the PICTify 1.5 conflict. See
here: <http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q279235>

Hope this does it.

Removing Pictify and restarting solved the problem.

Thanks Beth!
