Word suddenly errors and closes. Autorecovery does not bring up my file.

Recently, I've been frustrated with my version of Word 2004, and I
only installed it last week. Everytime I use Word, I work for about 5
minutes, and Word then suddenly errors out and quits on me. But when
it restarts itself, it does not automatically recover my files that I
was working on when it crashed, like it did when I used the Windows
version of Word XP. I've posted below the details of the error
message if anyone can figure out what's wrong or if some other
third-party software I have is uncompatible with Mac Office 2004,
because it's Greek to me...
Ii'd first like to know the reason why Mac Word 2004 constantly
crashes on me, and then, secondly, I'd like to know how to set up
Autorecovery so that it AUTOMATICALLY brings up my files when I
restart Word after the crash. Thanks!

Well, not everybody's Word 2004 does this.... Although others have reported
problems with autorecover not spitting back files....

Is it always the same document?
The first way to check for a corrupt document is to
copy the entire thing, *excluding* the last paragraph mark, into a new
document. That last paragraph mark holds a lot of information which can get
corrupted, and copying the text into a document with a fresh one keeps your
formatting, but can fix some glitches.

A paragraph mark is a gray ¶. Click on ¶ on the standard toolbar to show
nonprinting characters, including paragraph marks.

Re AutoRecover not bringing up the files--if you go to Preferences | File
Locations, you can look and see where Word is saving the AutoRecover files
and see if they are there. (let us know if they are)

Did you install anything new after installing Word 2004? It does sound like
a third-party conflict.

Thanks, the copying and pasting, minus that last paragraph symbol,
seems to work...now that you mentioned it, I think it WAS the same
document, I just never realized it because I usually was working
between two or three documents at a time. But I always had the same
one open. I'm crossing my fingers in hopes that this solves the
problem with that apparently corrupted document...

Re the autorecovery, I did do some troubleshooting on my own, and set
up a file for where to save autorecovery files...but they still do not
"pop up" automatically when Word restarts after erroring out or a
power failure, like they used to when I used Windows Office XP on my
old PC. That was a convienient feature and I miss it...I can still
hunt and manually open the files on Mac Office 2004, but it's kind of
a pain in the neck to do.

Again, thanks for the help and if anyone can advise me further on my
autorecovery problem, please let me know!
