Word support for UCC/EAN 128 standard

I'm investigating the use of bar codes for our bulk
mailings, and I read on the USPS site that the bar code
should follow the UCC/EAN 128 standard. I've done some
preliminary searching, but I'm having difficulties
determining if the built in functionality with Word 2002
is following this standard. What about Word 2000?

Thanks in advance for the info!

I can't see anything that explicitly mentions these standards either

I'm not in the U.S. and do not use these barcodes, but if I wanted to be
sure of my ground I'd probably ask either Microsoft, or the USPS directly.
FWIW

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;105576

says that "Microsoft Word is POSTNET bar code certified for address block
bar codes", which suggests that the USPS may have some sort of list and/or
may be able to tell you whether or not each version of Word conforms to
their standards. The article also gives a contact point at the USPS (but
note that it's a pretty old article!)
