Word Table of Contents Template

Anyone know of a way to save a custom template of the Table of
Contents style configuation? I'm using the latest version of Word
(ver. 11.0) on a PowerBook G4 using OS 10.3.4. The document I'm
working on has about 20 styles - some are the standard "Heading 1, 2,
3, etc." styles and the rest are custom styles. The mystery template
contains a selection seems to act like a default in the TOC menu
window. It has a pre-selected list of 5 of the total 20 styles...
But it's a random selection. Three are from the standard set of
styles (Headings 1, 2, and 3); the other two are from my custom list
of styles.

The pre-selected styles make no sense to me. Each time I need to
update the TOC, I have to manually modify the list of styles -- I
DESELECT 4 of the 5 styles that WORD has pre-selected and then SELECT
the two styles I want. It's not a big deal - it just takes time and
there appears to be NO way to save the settings.

Hello Mac,

I've just spotted that no-one has answered your query (I've been away since
early June, and others have been too).

You should certainly not have to do all that modifying -- that's not the
usual behaviour.

My first guess is that those non-default-heading styles have been defined
(Format menu -> Style -> Modify -> Paragraph -> Outline level) to be treated
as a heading level.

If that's not so, I'm handicapped by not being quite sure of the context
you're referring to when you say "I have to manually modify the list of
styles" -- if you are still having problems, please post back, but with more
explicit detail, including whether this happens in all documents.

Cheers,
