word takes > 90% of cpu time

Hi

I would be grateful if anyone can help me with this one.
I have been using Word 2000 for years without problems.
Now suddenly when I trying to open a document in Word 2000
the system is very very slow, and i observed that the cpu
usage is above 90% for word, I know I recently had a
virus that Norton detected and deleted,I have
uninstalled and re-installed Word, but without any joy.
It is only Word that is affected.

Any assistance would be grateful.

Hi Jayanth,

First make sure you have all of the patches installed for Word/Office.
There were a few patches that high CPU usage bugs. Take a look under
Help/About and if the version does not reflect SP3 then use the Office
Product Updates site and use the Scan utility to find any needed
updates:

Or you can download the patches manually. Here is some info on how to
