Word takes a huge time to display MS-Equation objects. How to fix

MS-Word takes a huge time to display MS- Equation objects. If there are about
20 objects on a page, it takes nearly half a minute.

I tried to open the same document on another computer, with a weaker
processor, smaller memory and the same Word and Windows settings.
Unexpectedly, Word showed the Equation objects very quickly there!

What can be the error? How do I fix it?
MS-Office version is 2000, under Windows2000. My PC has Celeron2400MHz and
512Mb.

Thank you.

Thank you very much for your reply. It was helpful. Below are some more
special questions and remarks.

1. Can I upgrade Office2000 to office 2002 or 2003 under Windows2000?
2. When Word displays Equations, it shows gray boxes first and then it
places the formulae on the boxes. However, some bordering parts of the gray
boxes survive after that. Is it possible to eliminate the gray boxes? I know
that they do not appear on some computers.
3. Unfortunately, the reference <a
href="http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q239/4/31.ASP">"optimizing Microsoft Word 2000"</a> does not work.

1. Because Bob works for Design Science, I doubt that he will answer this
question, but I can attest that both Office XP and Office 2003 will run on
Windows 2000.

2. You may be seeing field shading. On the View tab of Tools | Options, set
the display of field shading to Never or When selected.

3. Try http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=239431

Suzanne already answered these questions, so I have nothing to add, but I
would have given the same answer. :)

Thanks for reporting the problem. I'll see that it's changed to the URL
Suzanne gave in her reply.

Unfortunately, MS keeps coming up with different URL schemes for KB
articles. The article numbers themselves don't change, but it does become
harder to find them.
