One of our office's oft-used templates has obviously become corrupt. Word
version: 2003. OS: Windows Office XP on a network. Symptoms: Template and
all documents based on it since last week causes Word to crash when exiting
out of them. I first created this template early last year and made some
changes to one of the template's macros last week Until yesterday, the
template and its children worked fine. Disabling and even removing the macros
from the template does not prevent the Exit crash.
We can work with these documents just fine. We can save them. It's only
*exiting* that causes Word to crash and attempt a recovery of the document
(which never recovers them as we experience the same problem with the
recovered document). Now, here's the weird part - some old documents created
using this template from last year are crashing Word, too, also on Exit, but
not all. In fact the majority do not.
What is the reason for this crash and is it possible to recover the
template? I know it's not likely having read the info on recovering
templates, but since the problem occurs only on Exiting, I thought perhaps
someone might know the cause and if there is a remote chance of fixing it.
