Word Templates of the Same Name Problem

G

George Lee

I’m trying to attach a template having the same name as a previous one.
However, it always reverts to the original template path, even if it had been
several templates ago. What is the workaround? Obviously the original path is
being stored in the document, so where is it that it can be deleted?

This is Word 2007 but it was present in Word 2003, too.

I think you may have to attach a different "dummy" template, then attach your
same name (but different path) template.

That was the solution I was going to recommend, so I reckon it's probably
the right one. I seem to recall having encountered this before myself, and I
think I resolved it by first attaching to the normal template, saving and
then attaching to the desired template.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Your solutions appeared correct, with one note. It looks like you don't need
to save to a dummy template first, just that the template can't be the same
directory as the document. Word apparently looks in the directory first. I
missed that subtly the first time around.

Thanks!
