word templates screwed up not sure why or how to fix

On my laptop every time I open word, I get a message saying trying to
run a macro.
and says can not save normal.dot.

Now on my workstation it has begun to always ask about changes have
been made to normal.dot and do you want to save the changes.

is this a virus or malware or ?

is there any way to detect and repair this mess?
