Word temporarily freezing system

I have been chasing a system slowdown issue that appears to come back to
Word. About every minute or so while typing/ editing, my system slows to a
crawl. This lasts for 10-15 seconds and then all the keystrokes rapidly
catch up. Since I have 2 Thinkpads behaving in exaclty the same way (each
running the same anti virus/ malware etc) I have beel looking at setup and
profile. I put a monitor on the machines and discovered that the common
process that happens before everything on the machine (including the clock)
freezes for 10-15 seconds is a spike in CPU usage by WiINWORD. It is only
about 30% of usage and both machines have more than enough power/ speed.
During this time, everything on the PC is seriously slowed. Clock does not
advance and keystrokes dribble out at about 1 per second. I am looking at
other issues as well but I thought I would see if anyone here has seen this
before. Thanks

If it is Word that is maxing out the processor, look at Save AutoRecovery
interval (maybe turn this off to test). Also look at disabling the Spelling
and Grammar While you Type and disable those for testing.

Other possibilities are that one laptop has the Speech Recognition enabled
(try uninstalling that feature), the graphics or printer drivers are corrupt
or out of date and need updating (I presume that you have printer drivers
installed locally on the laptops: Word needs a printer driver to work
correctly.
