Word Textbox -- Border

Gail Miller

Hello...

I've just discovered this newsgroup so this is my second question in two
minutes.

But ... how does one reate a text box WITHOUT borders? I selected "none"
from the borders and shading menu, but a border appeared nonetheless.

This is for a business card format which will actually be a membership card.
The client only needs a template with a placeholder in which each member's
name, membership number and expiration date will be typed. The textbox is to
serve as a placeholder.

The only solution I could think of was to make the border white but if the
card is printed on a colored stock the border will show up in white.

How can I fix that?

TIA...

You need to have the "Drawing" toolbar in view (Go to...View --> Toolbars,
and click on Drawing)
After you create your text box, highlight (select) the box. Same as if your
going to change the box size (should have 8 dots to click & drag). Then go
to the Line Color icon (looks like a paint brush) click on the down arrow
and you'll see you can select "no line". That should do it.

That worked. Thanks very much. Who would have thought to go there??! Not
very intuitive, Word, is it?

Again thanks...Gail

There always seems to numerous way to do anything in Word.
Yet, another way is (if you don't have the "Drawing" toolbar in view) to
select the text box, right click, select "Format text box. This will bring a
box in which you can change all the properties of the box. Fill color,
style, patterns & lines, color, size, double lines, etc, etc. If you look in
the patterns sections, you'll see some gradient patterns. Not always
particularly useful...be some neat stuff to really change your documents.
Just FYI.

Thanks *very* much Bg! I do appreciate your help. I'm sure I'll like Word
better when I learn more about it. You're very generous to take time to help
me.

Gratefully...Gail
