Word to pdf colour handling

I have a need to send material produced in Word to print and understand that
colour should be specified in CMYK. I also understand that Word handles only
RGB. Can anyone tell me what happens when you convert the Word file to PDF?
Is it possible for Acrobat to convert the RGB infomation to CMYK? (Maybe this
is an Acrobat question rather than a Word one.) Does it make any difference
whther the graphics (screen grabs, photos, etc.) are linked or embedded in
Word?

Any information appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, it is more like Acrobat-thing. Colours of objects in document converted
to PDF from any Office software are in RGB, and it is not 'safe' to send to
print (I assume you are saying litho-printing).

Pitstop, a plug-in to Acrobat, might be able to solve some of your problems
(www.enfocus.com).

There are a few issues that you need to watch out when you embed
images/graphics into Word document and then convert them into PDF. Basically,
those objects need to be converted to CMYK in PDF for good printing result.
Photos are slightly tricky as it involves manual adjustment, but Enhanced
Metafile embedded can be handled by Pitstop easily.

Let me know if you need more information. But in short, a good printing
company will take care of those issues for you.
