John McGhie

Dear All:

This idiot is obviously finding sales a bit slow because Microsoft Word
INCLUDES the ability to create PDFs.

I hope he got paid for annoying us all with Spam, because that's all he's
going to get paid for :)

Dear all,

that program converts from word to pdf very easy and free

What - specifically - is preventing it? What happens if you try?

File> Print - click the PDF button in the lower left corner of the dialog.

If it doesn't work here is a problem that needs to be fixed.

If you simply want a different PDF creator - free - check at:

No idea what is preventing it. Had the same problem with Word X, which
is one of the reasons I upgraded.

When I d as you suggest, File->Print->save as PDF, it creates one blank
page. I've tried this with several pages; I've tried it with one. Same
result.

I will follow your link to...whatever. Thanks.

Hi Stephen:

Which printer do you have installed?

When you print the document to the printer, does it work? What about a
different document?

Which driver are you using for your printer?

And I assume you have all updates applied?

Trust me, it works and we will get it working for you. But we do need to do
some digging. The "Save to PDF" mechanism simply re-directs the stream
heading down the wire to the printer and saves that as a file. So we need
to look into how the rest of your print chain is working.

Cheers

There is no "Print As" option in my Word 2004. Do you possibly mean
"Save as PDF"? If, so, I've tried that a zillion different ways.

Its an HP Photosmart D7160 with 10.5 software version and most recent
updaters.

If I select a few pages from the document and save them to a new doc,
those are saved as a PDF. Not sure how many pages it will take.

I am having some issues with my networked printer at the moment, and a
Mac guy will be here in a few minutes to have a look. I used to be able
to print fine, but since I got my wife a new iMac, problems with
printing from mine. Hers is wired to the router. It may be that I'll
have to get a splitter and wire mine as well. I'll let you know what
the technician decides.

John,

OK, here's the skinny. Networking the printer fixed (not convinced this
had anything to do with the PDF conversion issue).

Now, here's what works on my Word 2004: save the Word document as an
RTF file. Then, save the RTF file as a PDF.

Seems like a workaround to me rather than something that should function
as a Word document, but the time being, there being no further input,
it'll have to do.

Thanks for your interest. If you have additional suggestions, I'm
certainly open to them.

Hi Stephen:

Oh, we've only just started on this one :)

Now we know that the PDF Mechanism works from Word 2004, we need to
investigate why it doesn't work on 2008.

In Word 2008, open a .docx file and try File>Save As>PDF...

Now try File>Print>PDF.Save as PDF...

Phillip tells me that one is the Aple Mac driver, the other is the Microsoft
river: we would like to know if either of them work.

Now try the same with a .doc file, and again with the RTF file.

The fact that it works from an RTF file but not from a .doc makes me
suspicious about the content of those files.

Let's see how this goes... :)

Cheers

Ah! Now where did I get the idea that you had 2008? I must be going blind.

OK, well this has to be a problem in the printer driver (which is used by
Mac OS to make PDFs...)

Can you install a different printer driver just for testing purposes. Try
an Apple LaserWriter driver...

Cheers

I don't have Word 2008. Sorry!

Hello All - The MS Word PDF Converter worked fine last month for this same type of document (meeting minutes in a table format), but now I try to convert my .doc file and it breaks it into two docs! I tried saving it as an rtf and then converting it ... no luck.

I *really* need this to go out as one document!

Can anyone help?!
