Word toolbars/add ins

I hope someone can help.

I recently reformatted my pc. Re-installed office 2003 and did all the
online updates. Since then my toolbar customizations refuse to stay, the
toolbars revert to the default as soon as I close/re-open word.

Also, I use a program called style writer, usually there is an add in in the
toolbar, but when I try to install it now, it tells me I don't have word 2003
on my system, even though I know I do. I try to copy the necessary files to
the word 2003 startup folder, which brings back the tool bar add in, but
tells me it can't run it because the macro is disabled. So I lowered macro
security then I get a "runtime error 9 subscript out of range" error message
until I delete the files I'd put in the word startup file.

I've tried re-installing word and deleting the normal.dot file and it's
still the same.

Does anyone have any idea what's causing this and how I can fix it?

Thanks in advance
