Word Toolbars

In Microsoft Word for a Mac, is there a way to combine the tool bar (with save, open, etc) into the main document window? I don't like that they are separate; I like when the word document takes up the entire screen (as it does on a PC).

Hi,

I find it interesting that a habit of lazy web browser makers has
finally become so prevalent that people ask for it now.

Way back when web browsers were made by college students as course
projects, their instructors let them get away with putting toolbars into
the same window as content. It's really wasteful, because each window
repeats the same toolbar buttons and consumes screen space that could be
used for content or other things.

It's more work for programmers to keep the window separate from the
toolbars. The practice used to happen only in cheapo web browsers.

Web browser makers have never bothered to fix this, so now people expect
the behavior.

Microsoft has caved in to the web craze by making Office 2008 have the
standard toolbar in each application imprisoned by a window, which is
what you are asking for.

So the solution is for you to upgrade to Office 2008, which has the
behavior you seek (but personally irritates me). In fact, you can not
get the standard toolbar out of the window in Office 2008.

You win.

I lose.

That's the way it goes! (Please be chuckling now)

Tangential to Jim's reply: What difference does it make whether the toolbar
is inside or outside? It has no bearing on how large the window can be &
occupies the same number of pixels of space either way - it's just a matter
of whether it eats those pixels internal or external of the window frame :)
