I'm sure you've all seen this one before, but it's been plauging me for a
long time now.
I currently do a little bit of helpdesk in the firm I work for, and we keep
getting the same problem over and over again. We use track changes a lot (law
firm), and these documents (produced using Word 97 SP2) get emailed out all
over the country, to then be edited (with track changes) to other firms who
may or may not use different version of Word.

What always seems to happen, is the document will open fine, the user will be
working away, will do something simple, like enter a carriage return, and
Word just stops. The most frustrating this is, once we see this error, it
only ever happens on that one machine. I do all the normal things, replace
the normal.dot, delete all temp files from all locations, reboot (classic
helpdesk :) ) and then try again. Same problem. However, when I then take the
document to another PC (built from the same image) and do the same thing,
more times than not, the document is fine. Save it. Pass it back, make a
change on the original machine. Crash.

We don't have fast saves on, so I'm pretty stumped. Of course, these
documents are ALWAYS time critical!!

I did see some hints on another post which I will try, but I'm more concerned
about the fact that these errors sometimes seem to be machine specific....

any ideas?
