Word tries to connect to mystery address on the Web

Hello,

I recently updated office with the latest service pack
and additional Word updates from Microsoft. Now, every
time I try to start up Word it loads very slowly and my
firewall tells me its trying to connect to a mysterious
address on the web. After doing a whois i discovered the
ip belongs to Verisign.

I also noticed that this only happens when I'm connected
to my office network, not when I use the laptop at home.
Its a pain because opening word triggers my office proxy
server and dials my ISP every time. I also have Adobe
Acrobat Pro 6 and NAV 2003 installed, but I don't know if
that's relevant.

TIA for any replies.

It could be caused by Adobe. I believe they digitally sign their
add-in and Word may be attempting to verify the electronic signature
with VeriSign.

Perhaps someone with a little more knowledge will jump in here and
provide more details.
