hello,

I have just bought Office: mac 2008, to replace my 2004 edition.

Both the Word programs on Office 2004 and 2008 won't run - they stop on the splash screen. However, all the other programs (excel etc) work.

I've found some info on fonts etc, but I'm convinced that I'm following them and still no joy.

Anyone have any ideas? Please!!!

Have you repaired permissions since the installation?

Hello,

I've updated Office and repaired disk permissions (using the Disk Utility application).

But still no joy.

AGGGHHH.

Have a look at the information here:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=313535

What you're describing is usually associated with font problems, so you're
on the right track. Perhaps the article will provide some suggestions beyond
what you've already tried.

If not, come back with the details of what did happen as a result as there
are other possible culprits to test for.

Hello Bob,

I've deleted the Office Font (12) file and still no joy.

I've also run a program called Linotype Fontexplorer X and that's not turned anything up. Infact, running that program now means that I'm missing some letters in my Safari browser.

Should I try and copy the error message here? I keep sending it off to Microsoft hoping that some IT guru will help me!

Sorry, I have no idea what the "Office Font (12) file" might be unless it's
specific to Tiger - I'm on a Leopard Mac right now and there is no such file
to be found. It concerns me a bit because the only files suggested to be
deleted were *cache* files. If you haven't emptied the Trash it might be a
good idea to move the file you deleted to the Desktop or a folder just in
case you need it back.

I'll try to check my Tiger Mac a little later. In the meantime, try the
suggestions on the page Diane provided.

No joy at all. I am word-less.

Have you tried the Apple combo? Doing so overwrites potentially
problem-causing files. Several users have reported this fixed some odd
problems they were having with Office. Combo updaters will install on the
same version as they¹re applying‹no need to roll back or do a clean install.

Leopard:

Mac OS X 10.5.4 Combo Update
(For both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macs )

Tiger:

Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (PPC)

Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (Intel)
