Word unusable after installing Service Pack 2

I installed Service Pack 2 for Office XP Professional and
now Word can no longer open existing doc files. I always
get the error message
"The file filename.doc is not available"
(where filename.doc stands for the name of whatever file
I want to open). I can create new files and print them,
but I cannot open them again, once I have saved them.
Also, when I try to leave Word, a popup alert appears
saying
"The file Normal.dot already exists. Do you want to
replace the existing file?"
No matter what I do then, the next time I open Word, I
get exactly the same kind of response.

Deinstalling Office and reinstalling it produces the same
erroneous behavior as soon as I install Service Pack 2.
(With Service Pack 1 everything is okay.)

Any suggestions? Or should I simply live without Service
Pack 2 (and whatever else that depends on it being
installed)?

Thanks.

Thanks! It worked.
I actually had to deinstall both Norton Antivirus and Office and then
reinstall Office (with SP 1&2) and then Norton Antivirus to make it work. In
the process of deinstalling Norton I somehow lost my network connection, but
that's another question for another forum...
Thanks again.
