Word v.X crashes on Quit

O

oxymoron

Hello,

Word v.X crashes consistently when I Quit the application. It also
crashes when I save some word files imported from other machines, but
less consistently.

I had this problem before but thought I had solved it by deleting the
word settings at ~/library/Preferences/Microsoft/Word Setting (10) and
the default template at Applications/Microsoft Office
X/Templates/Normal, but that hasn't worked this time around.

The crash log is below. Very grateful for any help- I seem to have
wasted 2 whole days on this!!

OS Version: 10.3.6 (Build 7R28)

What version of Word do you have ?? Did you apply the 10.1.6 update ???

I applied the Microsoft Office 10.1.6 security update (is that what
you mean?). If you think that's important, where do I look to see
whether Office has been successfuly updated?

I also just Repaired Disk Perimissions (Applications/Utilities/Disk
Utility) following the advice on
http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/TroubleshootingIndex.htm but that
didn't seem to help either...

Take a look here:

Do you have any add-ins loaded (e.g., End Note, Acrobat)?

What happens if, with all Office apps closed, you rename the

~:LIbrary:preferences:Microsoft

folder (where ~ is your home directory), then start Word? If it no
longer exhibits that behavior, you can replace the new prefs with those
in the renamed folder until you find the one that is causing the crash
(or you can just live with resetting your prefs).

10.1.6 is a combo updater. It will install al lthe other updates you
*might* have forgotten before as well.

Let's hop the information John posted as a follow-up will help you :-\

Yes I had updated successfully. I think the link should read:

Yes, plenty of add-ins. I think that I unloaded all of them, but that
didn't seem to have an affect.

No luck alas.

I gave up after all this frustration. I uninstalled Office using the
Uninstaller on the Office CD, and it picked up two previous versions
of Office (98 and 2001 I think) running on my computer (I updated from
OS 9 to OS X and then changed from Office 2001 to Office X). Perhaps
they were interfering with the functioning of Office X? Anyway, Word
seems to be behaving itself now that I have re-installed it. Still not
sure what was causing the crashing in the first place though...but
thanks for the words of advice!

Try deleting the ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Carbon Registration
Database and relaunch Word then,
