Word v.X - first page never prints

Hi,

Whenever I create a multi-page document I can never get the first page
to print - it used to but at some point stopped working. This only
happens in Word and all other applications give me no problem. If I
open the documents in Texedit and print this works fine.

The printer is a networked HP 5800 and the same word document will
print successfully from a colleague's Mac (both running 10.3.9)

I've searched for a possible solution but drawn a blank so far so any
pointer would be gratefully appreciated.

TIA

First thing I would check is whether there is a more current printer driver
than what you currently have.

If that isn't the problem, what version of Word & is it fully updated? Is
the problem with any multipage doc or one in particular?

I *like* your problem solving technique.
Chopping the problem into little bits is well sly.

Try chopping your problem in half a different way. In the print dialog,
set the printer to 'Any Printer' then print to PDF. If it looks OK on
screen, see if you can print it from there.
Does your colleague print the same doc OK to the exact same printer?

You might get your colleague to send you a multi-page he created from
scratch. It would be helpful to know if you can print the first page of
that on your printer.

Jumping ahead a little, have you tried hiding your normal template,
letting Word create a fresh one, and then making a new multi-page doc?
I don't think it fits the evidence, but it is easy to try
Your normal template should be found in
~/Documents/Micr... Oh wait!!! ,you are on v.X
that will be
/Applications/Microsoft\ Office X/Templates/My Templates/Normal

at least I think it should be. I'm getting a little rusty on v.X, and
mine might have ended up somewhere naughty. If it ain't there go up a
level and look in .../Templates/

This can be caused by two settings: Section properties, or Print properties.

If you have Format>Document>Layout>Section Start set to "Left Page", the
first page out of the printer will be a blank sheet.

If you have File>Print>Copies and Pages>Page Range set to 2-99, it will
never print Page 1. If you have saved that as the default Preset, that
might be the problem.

Otherwise, I need more information: Is this ALL documents or SOME? What
happens if you print a document created by your colleague? What is the
setting for Banner Page in the printer driver for that printer (ask your
network administrator...)

Cheers

Thanks to you all for your input. I've now resolved the problem and
should have spotted the difference earlier. The File/Page Setup 'paper
size' was set to a customised setting. When I changed this to match
the other Mac (A4) all was fine.

I just need to find out from a colleague why the change was made and
whether it is still required.

Thanks again for your help.
