Word when I try the file - open, it hangs and won't work

My daughter downloaded a bunch of recipes and then tried to stop printing
them. 2 days later, I have cleared the temporary files, but when I try file
- open - it just hangs up. I can get the most recent files open, the ones on
the bottom of the file menu, but nothing through file - opn.

Go to the email from PW dated 4/19/2006 beginning "Your latest updates have
fouled up my com.... and vote 'I agree', maybe we'll wake somebody up at MS

The problem is not with the update, although the update exposed the problem.
The problem is with third-party software.
