Word will not let me use straight quotes

I've de-selected "replace straight quotes with smart quotes" in
Tools/AutoCorrect options, but Word still won't let me use straight
quotes.

Every time I get this option working properly, it screws up again. How
do I get Word to let me use straight quotes?

Hello-

You're 1/2 way there... In addition to what you've already done, go back to
the same AutoCorrect dialog box and remove the check on both the AutoFormat
_and_ AutoFormat as You Type pages. See if that makes a difference.
(Although it should only be necessary on the AutoFormat page, it doesn't
always "take".)If not, which version of Word are you using?
