Word will not merge excel fields.

Trying to merge worksheet with Word to get labels. Instead of the proper
selection of fields (last name) I get "Auto merge field 1" "Auto merge field
2" ...

This usually occurs when the field headers are not on Row 1.
Delete the extra stuff above the field headers, or add them if the do not
exist and try again. Lists that are used to create a Merge, must be "clean"
of extraneous data.
