Word will not open and locks computer up!

I cannot open any Word documents (along with a bunch of
other people it seems!). When I try to open Word by
itself or thru an attached file it locks the computer up.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Word, but it still
will not open. I get a message that says I am dangerously
low on memory, to quit all other applications, however
nothing else is in use, and I have plenty of memory! Any
help would be greatly appreciated!!
