word will not open new document

Word 2000 will not open a new document for me. It works
fine if I open an existing document but when I first open
Word from the program menu it can not find the "New"
document and gives me the error "The document name or
path is not valid, Try these suggestions. *Check the
file for permissions for the document or dirve. *Use the
File Open dialog box to locate file" Thanks for your
help!

Hi Lisa,

Does the error message provide a file name? If so what is it?

After the error message displays can you click the "New" command on
the Standard toolbar and create a new document?
