Word will not open

I replaced my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP but Word will not open -
if I try to run the winword.exe file or open a word document, it gives me an
error that says Operating system is not configured to run this program.
Gateway tech support said I had to buy Office and reinstall - I do not have
an original Office disc because it was loaded already from Gateway. Any help?

If you have the invoice from Gateway that states Word (or Office) was
included, they MUST provide you with the OEM installation CD.

Unfortunately, there's no legal way to download any version of Office (other
than trials from Microsoft), so you may find it easier to purchase a new
version rather that fight a battle with Gateway.

I would recommend Office Students and Teachers 2003 - which is good for 3
installations on laptops or computers in your own home. Just make sure you
are happy with the components first.
