I cannot open Word via the Applications folder. I can open Word, however,
if I click on a word document Word opens.

Consistent and reproducible problems in Word usually respond to one of
the standard troubleshooting measures, which you will find listed here:

Work through them one by one until something helps. If nothing does,
post back. The most common culprit is a corrupted Normal template or
damaged Preferences file.

Which means the copy of Word that is opening is not "in" the Applications
folder. Have a look in the Trash
Did you carefully remove the Test Drive copy of Microsoft Office according
to the instructions befo0re you installed Microsoft Office 2004?
