Word will not start

I've been using Word for Mac for years. All of a sudden - the
application will not start up. An error message appears instead.
I've deleted the word.plist file. I've also removed Word completely
and reinstalled and Word still will not start up. All the other
Microsoft programs start up normally, but some problem is keeping Word
from even starting up. Even if I click on existing documents nothing
happens. It's like a conflict has rendered Word useless.

Consistent and reproducible problems in Word usually respond to one of
the standard troubleshooting measures, which you will find listed here:

http://word.mvps.org/Mac/TroubleshootingIndex.html

Work through them one by one until something helps. If nothing does,
post back. The most common culprit is a corrupted Normal template or
damaged Preferences file.

Hi Daiya:

Sorry about that... You posted an hour before I did, but your response
wasn't visible to me when I sent mine (if it had been, I wouldn't have
responded...)

Cheers
