Word & windows ME

Im having problems with word 2000 and wonder if anyone
can help whenever i try to open word from the start menu
it freezes before opening however i can open it through
office shortcut on desktop but can only start new
document and then go back through previous documents i
wondered if there was a problem between word & windows ME
