Word won't honor caps command from Excel in merge

I have data in Excel that I downloaded. It is in all caps. I set up clone
columns and applied the '+proper(A22)' command to get the capitalization
correct. That worked fine. Unfortunately, when I bring it over to my
envelope in Word, it seems to have a nasty habit of forcing "ALL CAPS" on the
envelope. I can go in word by word and force 'Initial Caps', but it doesn't
save it, i.e., when I bring the document back up, it overrides with
'UPPERCASE'. Which is a command I never used. Word gremlins. I made it
work, finally, after recreating the envelope from scratch, but it's still not
right. I can't close the file and reopen it as I have to go back and refix
everything. Where is the 'uppercase' cram coming from?

Hi Enzo,

You may want to also post this in the Word Mailmerge/Fields
newsgroup(link below) and include the versions of Word and
Excel you are using.
