word won't open, but all else will

I have a new machine with XP.

MS word won't boot. I get the error msg:

"WKSWP.exe Unable to locate component"

"LTKRN13N.dll was not found. Reinstalling this
application may fix this problem."

Spreadsheet, calendar, data base, etc, all boot fine.
Just the word processor.

How do I reinstall?

From the Windows Control Panel, select the Add/Remove Software icon. This
should then give you options to either Repair or under the Modify item,
Remove the software.

Allow me to translate:

1. You have *Windows* XP.

2. You have Works Suite 2005, which includes Word 2002, or perhaps you just
have Works (not the Suite).

3. Works appears to be looking for the Works word processor, which is what
WKSWP.exe is (Word is Winword.exe).

4. If you don't have the suite, you don't have Word at all. If you do have
the suite, you may not have Word installed.

5. From Google it appears that LTKRN13N.dll is definitely a component of
Works 7.0 (that is, nothing to do with Word), and it appears that this is a
frequent topic in microsoft.public.works.win.

Thanks. I went to Control panel, add/remove, and the
prompt told me to reinstall Word on the Word 7.0 disc,
which I don't believe I have (new out of the box
computer, one month old) save for the fact it came pre
installed. Is there a way to resolve this via a download?

You don't have Word 7.0 (which came out in 1994 or 1995). You have Works
7.0, which doesn't include Word at all, so you really need to direct your
questions to a Works NG. But the computer vendor should have provided you
CDs of all installed programs. Look through all the stuff that came with
your computer.
