Word won't open documents

All of a sudden my Word program wilkl not open any
saved .DOC. When I try to open anything it says "DOC not
available" evne when it shows a preview in the window.
Also when I writ a new word doc and save it it will not
open afterwards either. I have un installed Word and re-
installed it that didn't help. I also tried updating my
office and that didn't help.

The other thing that is happening is when I close word I
get a message "that file NORMAL.DOT already exists. Do I
want to replace it?" I have to replace it each time to
get WORD to close ? What is going wrong ??

Hi Ken,

It sounds like you have encountered a conflict in Norton AV. Go to
Norton Options, select Miscellaneous, and turn of the "Office Plug-in"
option.

Hi Denise,

Is it possible Norton AV was installed on the computer at one time?
We've had may instances were Norton AV was uninstalled but the DLL for
the Office Plug-in was still registered and causing the conflict.

Search for "officeav.dll" and if found:

- Go to Start/Run
- Click the "Browse" command and locate OfficeAV.dll
- Back on the Run command add regsvr32 /u to the beginning

It will look something like:
regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\OfficeAV.dll"

Note that there is a space before and after /u

You should see the message: "DllUnregisterServer in C:\Program
Files\Norton AntiVirus\OfficeAV.dll succeeded."
