Word won't open

Just installed Office 2008 and all the programs will open just fine except for Word. The start screen with the product key comes up then I get an error message (below). I tried re-installing but it didn't help, what do I do?

Eeewwww.... That's a nasty one. It's crashing before the application has
loaded. I think it may ("might") be Preferences.

Did you have Office 2004 on that computer before?

If so, run the Office Remover tool from the Office 2004 CD, then delete the
folder /Users/~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/ and try Word
again.

Sorry, but it's difficult to know what has happened there...

Cheers

With the Office Remover of Office 2004 CD I delete the Office 2004 (not 2008) and work it.
Thanks!
